Torture Garden

Posted on: April 15, 2009

dsc04764You’re obliged to pretend respect for people and institutions you think absurd.  You live attached in a cowardly fashion to moral and social conventions you despise, condemn, and know lack all foundation.  It is that permanent contradiction between your ideas and desires and all the dead formalities and vain pretenses of your civilization which makes you sad, troubled and unbalanced.  In that intolerable conflict you lose all joy of life and all feeling of personality, because at every moment they suppress and restrain and check the free play of your powers.  That’s the poisoned and mortal wound of the civilized world.

hey Masha
I love your writing style . . very thoughtful, deep and creative

Masha, Thank-you for looking deep and reflecting back. The black and white image, the gesture of your subject work together and pull me in. I am a Portland, Oregon friend of Geoff’s.

thank you, Claire. I hope you like my other subject.

We want to break free, free our thoughts from the chains of old ideas and poor social taboos and act according to our wish, but we keep pretending and we pretend for others and others also pretend, so this world is really a world of pretention hooked in a chain and hidden, suppressed emotion and thoughts keep us silenced.
